Balnarring Primary School
19 August 2026

Welcome back for Term 3 at Balnarring Primary School. We have had a great start back at school with students and staff reconnecting with one another and enjoying learning together. There has been a learning ‘buzz’ emanating from Ms Fawkes Year 3 classroom where they have made a start on their unit on coding. Students have been learning how to code Spheros, Beebots and Ozobots to move as instructed and navigate their way through obstacle courses. This has been very exciting to see in action!

During the school holidays, National NAIDOC Week occurred (5-12 July). Celebrations were held across Australia to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

During the first week back of Term 3, all students in every classroom celebrated NAIDOC week by focusing on this year’s poster artist, Zaachariaha Fielding; a proud Yankunytjatjara man from the APY Lands in South Australia who is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading contemporary First Nations artists and musicians. Each class learnt about Zaachariaha and his artwork, Paralpi, paying close attention to the colours, style and patterns used. Then, using Paralpi as a provocation, students created their own piece of art. Have a look at these wonderful pieces created by our students.

On Thursday 22 July Lani from Year 6 represented Australia in the BMX World Championships held in Brisbane. What a thrill it was for her classmates to be able to watch a live stream of her race and cheer her on.

Over the last couple of weeks we have had pre-school aged children and their parents/carers attend our Mini Musician Stay and Play sessions. Thank you to our music teacher Mr Cornall who is running these sessions. Enrolments through the SchoolsVic portal for 2027 Foundation enrolment is open, enrolments are due in by Friday 31 July. We encourage families with younger siblings who are planning to enrol for Foundation in 2027 to do so as soon as possible.

Individual student NAPLAN reports have now been issued to families of students in Year 3 and Year 5. We are really proud of all of our students and their learning growth. If you wish to further discuss your child’s individual NAPLAN report, please contact your child’s teacher. As a school, our students performed really well in comparison to similar schools with Balnarring Primary School having a higher number of students achieving ‘exceeding’ or ‘strong’ for the areas of Year 3 Reading, Writing and Numeracy as well as all assessment areas for Year 5. These fantastic results are testament to the focus our student have on their learning, as well as, the teaching programs implemented by our staff.
